How do you tighten a Ratchet Strap?
When tightening a ratchet strap it’s incredibly important that before you begin to even consider strapping whatever you are transporting down to check your straps over. Sometimes tie downs will wear and tear over time and put a damaged or potentially weakened tie-down strap on your cargo is dangerous. Secondly, knowing your load’s weight and how you plan to secure your load using the four-point system for motorcycles, cars, heavy loads, or anything in between to equally distribute the weight of the item you are transporting. Always buy ratchet straps and tie downs from reputable companies and the products you are buying follows the CVSA and DOT regulations set on tie downs by clearly displaying a visible working load limit (WLL).
How to tighten a Ratchet Strap Instructions
1. Make sure you open the ratchet to make sure it is in an upright position to completely open the ratchet. This can be arranged by simply pulling on the ratchet until it will no longer open any further using gentle force. Once the Ratchet is completely released and opened, you can now close the ratchet completely until it will no longer close. You will thread the webbing through the closed position.
2. Next, from the bottom of the ratchet, thread the webbing through the slot in the center spool of the closed ratchet device.
3.Begin the ratcheting process by raising and lowering the handle until most of the slack in the webbing has been tightened. (Make sure you don’t over tighten the tie downs)
4. The extra webbing you have should be tucked in behind the secured webbing to prevent any extra webbing from being tangled or any potential rubbing of the webbing that can weaken the tie downs.
5. You have successfully tightened a ratchet strap.
How to loosen a Ratchet Strap Instructions
1. If you need to release the ratchet strap, pull and hold open the release tab that is located on the top assembly of the ratchet to override the ratcheting function.
2. Open the ratchet until it is completely all the way open and laying in a flat opened position.
3. Grab the webbing from the nonfixed side of the ratchet and pull to open to allow the ratchet to release the webbing.
4. Pull and hold the release tab on the top of the assembly of the Ratchet device to close the Ratchet.
5. You have now successfully loosened a ratchet strap. Remember to store the straps in a tangle free, dry, and sunlight free area to further the lifespan of your ratchet straps.
Always make sure before you use your ratchet straps to inspect them for any possible wears and tears that have happened from potential weathering, friction, sunlight, or other damage prior to using each of the ratchet straps before using and after using for good safety techniques.
